On Yaddhanapudi
I am in my late fiftees now. We as young girls were very fond of Yaddhanapudi Sulochana Rani Novels. I still remember her novel Secretary which was published in the monthly "Jaya Sri". My brother who is five years older to me used to read Raju-Mahishi- a serial by a stalward Sri Rachakonda Viswanath Sastry and I as a teenager ( may be I was 13 years old) used to read Secretary. Her here Rajasekhar was a favourite fiancee to every teen age girl. Why not? He is tall, handsome and above all he is rich. On the other hand the girl - the heroine does not have anything except beauty and so called atmabhimanam. Her novels never discussed any serious issues. It is just a man meets his lady love. From the beginning till the end the readers would know that they ultimately marry. In spite of this fact we used to read the serials with all seriousness- dreaming about our Rajasekhar whom we would meet in our lives. As I grew older I started enjoying Ravi Sastry more than Yaddhanpudi. But, her style is inimitable. One shoud accept this fact.
